When guests can't find their name
How guests find their invitation by name, how group RSVPs work, and what to do when a guest is stuck.
Updated
Guests reach their RSVP in one of two ways: they open the personal link you sent their group, or they open your invitation and search for their name. Most "I can't find my name" moments come from the search, and most are quick to fix.
How the name search works
On your invitation, guests type into Find your invitation. The search:
- starts after two letters
- finds a name that contains what they typed, in the first name or the last name ("ann" finds Anne and Joanna)
- needs every word they type to match, so "Maria Santos" narrows down to Maria Santos, while "Maria Cruz" finds nothing if her last name on your list is Santos
When nothing matches, guests see No matches found, with a hint to check the spelling or search for someone else in their group.
Why a guest can't find their name
- The spelling on your list is different. Check the name on your Guest List. "Ma. Teresa" and "Maria Teresa" are different words to the search. Fix the name on your list, or tell the guest how it is spelled.
- They searched a nickname. Search looks at the names on your list only. Ask them to try their first name as you wrote it, or their last name alone.
- They are not on the list yet. Add them to their group on your Guest List.
- Your RSVP needs an invite link. If Invite Link Required is on, the RSVP section only shows to guests who open their personal link, and nobody can search. Send them their group's link.
The fastest fix is always the personal link: open your Guest List, find their group, and click Copy Link. The link opens with their names already filled in.
Confirming their last name
If Require Last Name Verification is on, a guest who picks a name from the search is asked to Verify your identity by typing their last name. It stops people from answering for someone else. Leave it on unless your guests have no last names on your list.
How group RSVPs work
A group, like a family or a couple, answers together. Everyone in the group is listed, and each person gets their own Joyfully accepts or Regretfully declines. Seats you added without names are answered together instead: the family taps how many of them are coming, and adding names is optional.
The group can't send the answer until every person has one. Then someone taps Submit RSVP. If a guest only answers for themselves and stops, nothing is saved yet. Remind them to answer for everyone in their group and tap Submit RSVP.
After they submit, they see Response received with each person's answer. To change it, they open the invitation again and tap Plans changed? Update your response here.
Frequently asked questions
Can one person in a group answer only for themselves?
No. The whole group answers in one go. If some of them don't know yet, they can pick an answer for now and change it later.
Can other guests see who is in my guest list?
The search shows only the names that match what someone types, and with Require Last Name Verification on, nobody can open a group without its last name.
The deadline passed. Can a guest still answer?
No. After your RSVP deadline, guests see that RSVPs are closed. You can update their answer yourself from your Guest List.
